At AEL, we offer installation services and conduct annual testing to ensure your lights are operational when it matters most. Additionally, we can help you establish a straightforward weekly maintenance routine to keep you compliant and safe.

Emergency lighting is a crucial part of any buildings safety, it should form part of every Fire Risk Assessment and also any evacuation procedure no matter what the course. The design of the installation is paramount for its safe use and at AEL we can and will design an installation that fully complies but does not exceed what is required keeping costs to a minimum.

The installation will be priced and once approved will be installed in accordance with all electrical wiring regulations.

Many emergency lights that are installed are LED giving extremely low running costs, great output and less maintenance. Here at AEL we embrace LED technology and use these new types of emergency lights as much as possible.

Test switches will be installed for all emergency light points and the operation of the system will be fully explained. Log books and certification will be issued and a testing contract can be set up if required.

“We have used AEL for our testing and installation works for nearly 20 years; they are a great company, and I have no problem recommending their services.”

Emergency lighting installation frequently asked questions

  • Do I need emergency lights in my workplace?

Yes, you are legally required to have emergency lights at your workplace. This is under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety Order) (2005).

  • How often should I test my emergency lights?

They should be tested weekly, called a ‘flick test.’ This can be easily carried out by a member of your own team. However, emergency lights should also have a drain test conducted annually. This is best carried out by a qualified engineer.

  • Why are some lights often lit and others are not?

These are called maintained lights (on all the time) or non-maintained lights (only on when the power is lost). Different environments require different systems, and an engineer can help with this design.

  • Are exit lights emergency lights?

No, exit signs are not emergency lights. Even though they do provide light, they are designed to show a direction, not to light your way.
